LORD DHANWANTARI – THE DEITY OF AYURVEDA

Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaaya.. Dhanvantaraye.. Amrita-kalasha Hasthaya.. Sarvamaya vinashanaya.. Trailokhya nathaya… Sree Maha Vishnave namaha..

sRI DHANWANTARI SHLOKA

Being an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Dhanwantari, the deity of Ayurveda was emerged out of the divine churning of ocean of milk (Samudra manthana). This divine Physician, who emerged out of Samudra manthana, had 4 arms – holding Shankha (Holy Shell), Chakra (Sudarshana Wheel), a pot of Amritha (Ambrosia) and Jalouka (Leech). Few opine that instead of Jalouka, Dhanwantari carried a twig – representing Ayurvedic system of medicine and its rich heritage. He is conferred with the virtues of providing health and wealth. Since 2016, October 25th of every year, Dhanwantari Jayanthi (the birth day of Lord Dhanwantari) is considered and celebrated as National Ayurveda day in India. This is done with an aim to nationalise Ayurveda which can prove to be a corner stone for its globalisation.

Yes!!! Ayurveda has a rich and divine heritage to lean on, which was well recollected by Lord Brahma and preached to his followers like Daksha Prajapathi, the twinnie physicians – the Ashwini Kumaras, Lord Indra and thereafter to Divodasa Dhanwantari, Bharadwaja, Kashyapa etc. This is how we believe that Ayurveda was opened up to the mankind. The hypothesis expounded by these eminent sages, thousands of years ago, even now are true and trustworthy, many concepts are yet to be explored completely.
